Discover the History of our Geopark with our Geological Map!

The landscape we see today is the result of millions of years of geological history, shaped by shifting tectonic plates, ancient seas, and the relentless power of the waves. To help you explore this hidden story, we are excited to introduce our new Geological Map of the Cross-Channel Geopark.

A Journey Through Time

This map uncovers the shared geological heritage of our two regions. From the 400-million-year-old rocks of the Devonian period in the Marquise quarries, to the iconic white chalk cliffs of Dover and Cap Blanc-Nez, each layer of earth tells a tale of tropical seas, tectonic upheavals, and the dramatic opening of the Strait of Dover.

Highlights on the Map

  • White Cliffs of Dover & Cap Blanc-Nez: Stunning exposures of Upper Cretaceous white chalk.

  • Cap Gris-Nez: Rocks dating back 150 million years to the Jurassic period.

  • Dryhill Quarry: Explore the Greensand formations of the Lower Cretaceous.

  • Marais Audomarois: Quaternary sediments shaped by both natural forces and human activity.
