A guided walk and creative workshop led by artist Alison Neighbour

Friday 4th July, 10am-3pm

Meeting Location: Picnic benches outside Samphire Hoe Education Shelter CT17 9FL

Join us for a day of exploring our relationship to place within the contrasting spaces of Samphire Hoe and Abbotscliff beach.

Walking scores invite a new way of relating to the landscape, through a process of questioning, invitation, and exchange.

We’ll begin with a walk across Samphire Hoe and down onto the beach, using a walking score to invite questions about the place and what it offers and invites.
Through playful movement, listening and looking, we will explore ways of being, ways of asking, and ways of receiving in communication with the landscape; and look at how the landscape itself guides us to different ways of relating with it.

As a group, we’ll then develop a series of questions for this place, and reflect on our experiences through drawing and writing. We’ll end by creating a new collective walking score, which invites others to experience what we have experienced. Each participant will receive a copy of the book after the workshop.

The intention is to work outside all day so please wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in and suitable for the weather on the day – sun cream or a raincoat or both! Some of the ground is uneven so please wear comfortable and sturdy shoes (not flipflops or sandals). We will walk at a gentle pace for about 45 minutes-1 hour at the beginning and end of the session.

Please bring with you: a packed lunch; plenty to drink; a notebook and pen/pencil

Please note the Cafe at Samphire Hoe is currently closed, however drinking water and toilets are available.

Parking onsite is £2. We can support lift-sharing from Folkestone on request – email ali.neighbour@gmail.com to offer or request a lift.

More info on the site and how to get there is available here: https://www.samphirehoe.com/visit-us/
