Visit Responsibly

The Transmanche Geopark is a special place, rich in beauty, history, and wildlife. It is also a living, working environment that is sensitive to change. By following a few simple guidelines, you can help protect this special place now and for the future.

Walking Blue Bell Hill

Stick to marked trails

Waymarked paths help you explore safely, while protecting wildlife and habitats. Please don’t stray off the path — it can damage delicate ecosystems and put you at risk. Use signs and maps to stay on track.

Give wildlife space

From nesting birds to quiet woodland creatures, wildlife can be easily disturbed. Keep a respectful distance, stay quiet, and never feed animals — it can do more harm than good.

Take your litter with you

If bins are not available, please take your rubbish home. Even small bits of litter can harm wildlife or spoil the view for others. If there’s no bin, carry your rubbish out with you.

Leave natural things where they are

Whether it’s a flower, a stone, or a fossil – leave it where you found it. These are all part of the landscape, and by not disturbing them, you’re helping protect the place for everyone.

No fires or barbecues

Fires can start easily and spread quickly, especially in dry weather. For everyone’s safety, please don’t light fires or barbecues anywhere on site.

Keep dogs on leads

We know dogs love exploring too. But to protect wildlife and livestock, and for the safety of your pet, please keep dogs on a short lead and under close control near livestock.

Use designated parking areas

Please park only in the areas provided. Don’t block gateways, access routes, or tracks. It helps keep the site safe and accessible for everyone.

Plan ahead and stay safe

Check the weather, wear the right clothing, and take a map if you’re heading out on a walk. If the weather changes, be ready to turn back. Better to be safe than sorry.

Take extra care on the coast

Please take extra care if visiting coasts or beaches and note there may not be an  RNLI lifeguard. Please always follow RNLI guidance on coastal safety:

  • Check tide times and the weather forecast before you travel
  • Take care near cliffs – know your route and your limitations
  • Have a plan – check the weather forecast and tide times
  • If you fall into the water unexpectedly, float to live. Fight your instinct to thrash around, lean back, extend your arms and legs, and Float
  • If boating, ensure your equipment is functioning and maintained

Please also note that beach toilets and changing facilities may be closed.
