Acquina, a village of the arts, architecture and heritage. Creative workshops and craft demonstrations are open to the general public

  • 15 - 20 Oct 2026
  • Acquin-Westbecourt

From 15 to 20 October, the village of Acquina opens its doors in Acquin-Westbécourt for an event dedicated to local craftsmanship, materials and heritage. On the programme: demonstrations, talks, an exhibition, guided tours and workshops offering a fresh perspective on the trades and materials that shape our landscapes and built environment.

A workshop to learn how to carve chalk

Chalk is found everywhere in the region’s subsoil… but have you ever shaped it with your own hands?

As part of the festival, we’re offering an introductory course in chalk carving, led by sculptor Frédéric Cassarano. Using a block of chalk provided on site, participants will learn the techniques and methods of carving and will be able to create their own object or decorative piece. The workshop is available on Friday and Saturday afternoons.

Wood and traditional timber-framing techniques in the spotlight

The Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Nature Park will also be running a timber-joinery workshop. Participants will have the chance to learn the basics of traditional timber-framing techniques as part of a collaborative project.

These two workshops are offered free of charge by the Cross-Channel Geopark Transmanche and the Caps et Marais d’Opale Regional Nature Park, giving participants the chance to discover, tools in hand, the materials and skills that contribute to the region’s identity.
