At a height of 54 metres, it is built of Marquise marble stone, a fine-grained hard limestone that is known for its strength and moderate weight, hence its nickname “Napoleon marble”. This column is decorated with bas-reliefs depicting military scenes, testifying to the power of the French army during the Napoleonic era.
