Maison Dieu Stone Masonry Festival

Meet stone masons from the UK, France and the Netherlands as they carve fantastic creatures from blocks of Maison Dieu stone. Have a go at stone carving and stone rubbing. Learn about Kent’s incredible geology and exciting plans for the Cross-Channel Geopark. Add to our chalk graffiti wall and create colourful raku-fired gargoyles and grotesques.
The winners of the carve-off will be announced at 1pm on Mon 25 May.
Locations
The festival takes place both outside and inside Dover’s Maison Dieu (Dover Town Hall), CT16 1DL, and in the nearby Biggin Hall. It also includes visits to other nearby venues, including historic St Edmund’s Chapel and St Mary’s Church.
Free drop-in event. No need to book. Suitable for all ages. Refreshments available.
Accessibility
All venues are buggy and wheelchair accessible (except historic St Edmund’s Chapel) where there are 4 steps down from the pavement.
Organised by the Maison Dieu and Cats Eye Carving in partnership with the Kent Downs National Landscape and Cross-Channel Geopark, English Heritage, Dover Museum, Future Foundry, Ceramic Art Dover, the Kent Mining Museum, St Mary’s Church, St Edmund’s Chapel and a host of local partners.
